چکیده

This paper develops a new way to create smooth piecewise polynomial free-form spline surfaces from quadmeshes that include T-junctions, where surface strips start or terminate. All mesh nodes can be interpreted as control points of geometrically-smooth, piecewise polynomials that we call GT-splines. GT-splines are B-spline-like and cover T-junctions by two or four patches of degree bi-4. They complement multi-sided surface constructions in generating free-form surfaces with adaptive layout. Since GT-splines do not require a global coordination of knot intervals, GT-constructions are easy to deploy and can provide smooth surfaces with T-junctions where T-splines can not have a smooth parameterization. GT-constructions display a uniform highlight line distribution on input meshes where alternatives, such as Catmull-Clark subdivision, exhibit oscillations.

New Proof of Dimension Formula of Spline Spaces over T-meshes via Smoothing Cofactors ∗1)

T-meshes are formed by a set of horizontal line segments and a set of vertical line segments, where T-junctions are allowed. See Figure 1 for examples. Traditional tensor-product B-spline functions, which are a basic tool in the design of freeform surfaces, are defined over special T-meshes, where no T-junctions appear. B-spline surfaces have the drawback that arises from the mathematical prope...

Approximate R3-spline surface skinning

This paper considers the problem of constructing a smooth surface to fit rows of data points. A special class of T-spline surfaces is examined, which is characterized to have a global knot vector in one parameter direction and individual knot vectors from row to row in the other parameter direction. These T-spline surfaces are suitable for lofted surface interpolation or approximation. A skinni...

T-spline surface design in engineering

T-spline surfaces are a powerful tool in geometric modelling. A T-spline surface is an approximation of a T-grid data structure. T-grids support adaption operations like local refinement or merging of existing NURBS grids. Digital terrain models based on T-spline surfaces benefit from non-regular control grids. We show some exemplary application cases for T-spline based terrain modelling.

New Proof of Dimension Formula of Spline Spaces over T-meshes via Smoothing Cofactors

A T-mesh is basically a rectangular grid that allows T-junctions. Recently, Deng etal introduced splines over T-meshes, which are generalizations of T-splines invented by Sederberg etal, and proposed a dimension formula based on the B-net method. In this paper, we derive an equivalent dimension formula in a different form with the smoothing cofactor method. Mathematics subject classification:

Conformal Solid T-spline Construction from Boundary T-spline Representations

To achieve a tight integration of design and analysis, conformal solid T-spline construction with the input boundary spline representation preserved is desirable. However, to the best of our knowledge, this is still an open problem. In this paper, we provide its first solution. The input boundary T-spline surface has genus-zero topology and only contains eight extraordinary nodes, with an isopa...
